IN THIS BLOG POST I WANT TO SHOW YOU HOW I MAKE A KYDEX KNIFE SHEATH .
FOR A SMAL KIRIDACHI FIXED BLADE. I AM GONE MAKE A TACO STYLE KYDEX SHEATH THIS MEANS A SIMPLE FOLD OVER SHEATH.
WHAT DO YOU NEED
KYDEX SOMETHING TO CUT AND HEAT UP THE THE KYDEX A BOX CUTTER AND HEATGUN WORS FINE A KYDEX PRESS ORE SOME FOAM TO PRES THE KYDEX
EYLETS A DRILL SUPER GLUE SANDING PAPER AND PAPER MASKING TAPE
First we need to cut up the kydex plate .For this you can use a box cutter,bandsaw
I mostly make it 2.5 cm larger for the eyelets . Once you cut it you need to de burr the edges and
clean the kydex .
Next you need put a single layer of masking tape on each side of the knife and cut of the exess tape .
The purpose of the tape is to give the knife some room in the kydex sheath .So the knife will not scratch that fast .
Once you have done that its thime to set up the kydex press and clamp .A tip lay the knife in the press before you heat up the kydex . So you dont have a where have i put the knife moment .
Now you can heat up the kydex for this you can use a toster oven ore a heat gun .Heat up the kydex until its become flexible be carfull not to burn it . Make shure you have gloves on wen handeling the kydex.
Put the knife in the hot flexible kydex and press it let it cool for a few minutes . then you can take the kydex sheath out . if your not happy whit the result try it again . That is one of the pros of kydex .
Now its thime to dril the holes . make shure you use the corect size drill .
If you use a belt carry system use it to mark where the holes need to be .
Ones the holes ore drilled de burr them aswel the inside of the kydex sheath.
Put in the eyelets and rivet then in . next you can shape the kydex sheath to your liking.
If the edge of the sheath is not closed al the way you can put on some superglue and sand while its drying so the dust wil fill up the gap .
If you want you can ad a thump ramp by heat up the part where you want it the use a flat screw drives to pry it up but make shure to sheck the retencion i fit loosen up heat up that part and press it back in to place . AND CLEAN UP THE SHEATH AND YOUR DONE
